(The End of) winter is coming

After four months of cold, dry and windy weather, your skin has taken a beating. Your skin is the foundation to any great beauty look, so how do you erase effects of the winter months?

Areas that may be most dry during the cold months are the lips, nose and around the eyes, as well hands and feet. Consider microdermabrasion or some simple peels, introduce them into your routine once a month or every couple months. A professional treatment is the best way to start spring off with a fresh face.

Here are some other ways to prep for the spring and summer months:

Spring cleaning!

We all have more skin care products in our cabinets than we are actually using on a regular basis. We also want to make sure we are using the best and most effective products on our skin. Pull everything out of the cabinet and re-evaluate it’s purpose and effectiveness.

Toss if:

  • It’s not giving you the result you want.
  • It’s older than two years. The preservative system in most skin care products has a shelf life of two years.
  • It contains Mineral Oil, Isopropyl Myristate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Petroleum or Petrolatum. These ingredients can be pore-clogging and can suffocate the skin. Especially now that the weather is starting to warm up, these ingredients are best to avoid.
  • It contains SD Alcohol, synthetic fragrance (listed on the ingredients as “fragrance”). These are common skin irritants and can cause skin sensitivity. You can also evaluate your products for other toxins.
Wash your makeup brushes!

Oil and bacteria have been building up, now is the perfect time to freshen your brushes up. Fill a glass with warm water and add 1 tablespoon of gentle shampoo or gel cleanser. Swish brushes in the glass creating a lather. Rinse well and use a comb to de-tangle the bristles and get them back in their original shape. Let dry in an upright glass out in the sun. The sunlight destroys bacteria and helps to dry your brushes faster.

Enjoy the coming spring!
